Departed for Nigeria
Sunday, May 10, 2009:
Arrived in Abuja.
Monday, May 11, 2009:
We traveled to Kontagora and held a meeting with the United Missionary Church of Africa and the President and District Supertintendent of Kebbi at 5:00 p.m. We have reconnected with our Nigerian collegues and have received some very helpful background. We drove about 300 kilometers to target areas. We also met with the President of the Missionary Church in Nigeria.
Tuesday, May 12, 2009:
We are traveling to Kamba and camping with CAN. We drove through Kebbi State to the far side and met with church leaders and a local evangelist working in the region. We also met with a regional government leader who is Muslim. We were well-received and obtained permission to continue. Our car broke down, but local repairs were successful.

This photo shows Eric Baucom with children by a water well in Kamba.
Wednesday, May 13, 2009:
We visited Banizumbu, Fagen-Mata, Tungan Noma, Dole-Kaina and returned to camp at Kamba. What an incredible day! We walked among Songhai people in multiple villages. We met with THE Muslim-based believer (mbb) and heard his conversion story firsthand. We were able to film this. We were greeted and accepted in every village by a Muslim chief and experienced how the people live in 100+ degree heat without electricity or cooling. It is brutal. All farming is done by hand!

We traveled to Lolo and camped with the Baptist Church. We went to the other side of the Niger River today (maybe about 10km from where we were yesterday). It took almost 5 hours of driving to get to a bridge to cross and get back.

This was a very interesting day. We traveled through more villages on the south side of the Niger River. We drove through some real "bush" roads (rough and tire track only). We are staying in Lolo again tonight. We feel God is providing direction!

What an amazing day! God gave the same vision of what village to start with out of 30 to 40 possibilities that have been visited AND what operational concept to use, to three different partnering agencies! Only God could have accomplished this!!! On Sunday we will be taking our longest drive (about 10 hours). We would appreciate your prayers, because we have an agressive, fearless driver!

We finished our incredible journey by meeting with key partners and agreeing on a conceptual plan and next steps. The results could not have occurred without God's blessing! We are driving to Abuja tomorrow morning to catch flights home tomorrow night. Please pray for the long trek back home. God has been so good! We praise Him for His power, protection and direction during this very important trip to Nigeria!
